As the third single from the band’s second studio album, Wonderwall became their signature song. On October 1995, Wonderwall reached the second spot on the UK Singles Chart and eighth on the US Hot 100. It triumphantly grabbed the number one spot in Australia, New Zealand and Spain on the same year. Though presumed to be written for his ex-wife, the song was for a girl Gallagher met at their concert. The band did the recording of Wonderwall at Rockfield Studios in Wales in May 1995. Q Magazine recognized Wonderwall as the number two all-time greatest song based on a poll they made. VH1 placed Wonderwall at the number 35 spot in its 100 Greatest Songs of the ’90s on December 20, 2007.
