It may seem cruel to be so hard on the failure of GM motors and I do genuinely feel sorry for the thousands of poor workers who have lost their jobs. However, when you look at what GM have done for the green market and particularly the electric car industry then the smaller companies like Aptera Motors could have the last laugh. In 2001 GM decided to start laying off staff who were involved on the EV1 electric car model and move them to gas fueled models. GM vice chairman Harry Pearce stated that they were still committed to the electrical vehicle program however there was no need to continue to build electric cars. I bet he wished that he hadn’t made such a stupid decision today.
