E Ink, the supplier of the display for the Amazon kindle ebook reader among other electronic reading devices, has been acquired by Prime View International - a Taiwanese company - for approximately $215 million. The deal is expected to be formalised by the end of the year subject to regulatory approval. E Ink is the leading manufacturer of electronic paper display technologies used for consumer applications in handheld portable devices such as the kindle and Sony’s PRS electronic book reader. The ebook reader market is expanding rapidly right now and Amazon are very much in the driving seat - although fierce competition is expected in the near future with Google and Sony expected to be very active.
